Understanding the Zeqenimorix Interface and Classification Terminology
This page provides a supplementary reference for new and prospective users. It covers key terminology used in the Zeqenimorix interface, explains the information architecture underlying the service, and describes what you can expect during the initial configuration period.
Key terminology
The following terms are used consistently throughout the Zeqenimorix interface. Familiarising yourself with them before you begin will help you navigate the configuration walkthrough more efficiently.
Record
A record is the fundamental unit of information in Zeqenimorix. A record may represent a document, a data entry, a reference item, or any other discrete piece of information that you want to organise. Records do not have a fixed format: the interface accommodates records of different types within the same information set.
Category
A category is a label that can be applied to one or more records. Categories form the primary structure through which information is organised. During initial setup, you define the categories that are relevant to your information set. Categories can be nested, allowing you to create sub-categories within broader groupings.
Taxonomy
A taxonomy is the complete set of categories and sub-categories you define for a given information set. A well-designed taxonomy reflects the actual structure of the information you are organising. If your taxonomy does not match the information, the organised output will be less useful. The configuration walkthrough is intended to help you develop an appropriate initial taxonomy rather than impose a generic one.
Hierarchy
Hierarchy refers to the parent-child relationship between categories and sub-categories. A record assigned to a sub-category is also, by implication, within the parent category. The review interface surfaces these hierarchical relationships visually, allowing you to navigate from broad to specific groupings.
Arrangement
Arrangement is the ordering of records within a category or sub-category. Unlike classification, which determines where a record sits in the taxonomy, arrangement determines the sequence in which records within that position are presented. Arrangement can be changed without altering classification.
Review panel
The review panel is the main content area of the Zeqenimorix interface. When you select a category or a specific record, the review panel displays the relevant content in a consistent format. For categories, it shows the records within that category in their arranged order. For individual records, it shows the record's content alongside its classification and arrangement metadata.
Information architecture of the service
The Zeqenimorix service is organised around three layers. The top layer is the information set, which represents the full body of content you are working with. Below that are the categories that make up your taxonomy. Within each category are the individual records, presented in arranged order.
This three-layer structure is simple by design. It accommodates complex information without requiring complex configuration. The depth of the taxonomy — how many levels of sub-categories you use — is your choice, and can be adjusted as your understanding of the information develops.
A common approach when starting with a new information set is to begin with a flat taxonomy of broad categories, then add sub-categories as you review the records and identify meaningful sub-groupings. It is easier to start broad and refine than to start with an elaborate taxonomy that may not fit the actual information.
What to expect during initial configuration
After access is confirmed, you will be invited to a configuration walkthrough with a Zeqenimorix team member. This walkthrough typically covers the following areas:
- An introduction to the interface layout and the main navigation regions.
- A discussion of your information set and the kind of structure that would best serve your use of it.
- Setting up your initial taxonomy of categories and sub-categories.
- Importing or entering an initial set of records to verify that the taxonomy works as expected.
- A brief review of the review panel and how to navigate between records and categories.
The walkthrough is collaborative rather than prescriptive. The team member will offer suggestions based on how the service is typically used, but the taxonomy you end up with should reflect your information and your priorities.
Refining your setup over time
An initial taxonomy is rarely final. As you work with your information set, you will likely identify categories that are too broad, sub-categories that should be merged, and records that have been classified in a way that does not reflect how you actually want to reference them.
The Zeqenimorix interface allows you to revise classification and arrangement at any time without losing existing assignments. When you reclassify a record, the previous classification is retained in the record's history, which you can review in the review panel.
If you find that your taxonomy needs a more significant restructure — for example, if the entire top-level category structure no longer fits the information — the support team can assist with planning the restructure in a way that minimises disruption to records that are already well-organised.
